The Passion of Christ is just another excuse for modern baptist christianity to impose overwhelmingly biased beliefs on the world.   The real crime is that Mel Gibson will be made even richer in the process.

If I remember correctly (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but I think Gibson is actually a devout Catholic.   I don't get where you view that as some sort of baptist atrocity/conspiracy to brainwash you into a life of servitude to evil, southern baptist slavemasters.

So, what exactly is your problem with the movie?  I haven't seen it yet but plan to this weekend.   Is your problem that the movie is openly religious?

I see irony in Hollywood and many of the film's critics being uncomfortable with an openly christian film while secular films with trash scripts, explicit content & 100 million dollar special effects budgets to drive home mundane events are welcomed with open arms.

Could it be, that the movie has sparked some emotion in you that makes you resent it?   Perhaps pity for the horrible details of the torture that Christ endured.   Guilt perhaps?
Lay on the couch and tell me about your mother.  When you look at this inkblot, what comes to mind?

What an odd thing to say...especially since the likelihood is you (haven't yet or ever will) see it.

I like most movies.  I like the entire movie experience...the anticipation based on trailers and promos, the actors, the scripts and ideas and execution, the big screen and good sound, the overpriced popcorn.  A movie has to be pretty bad for me not to enjoy it to a certain degree.

I am not one of the people who believe that movies sway the viewer to behave in ways they never would or develop prejudices or desires they don't have.  I think the influence of a movie is about the same as the influence of a good book on the reader.  Every time a movie comes out like Harry Potter or any number of other movies that cause great upheaval and controversy (especially among churches and the faithful) I think it's stupid. The vast majority of people who go to the movies know that whatever they're seeing is a depiction of either a true or made-up even, and that depiction is completely relative to the people who make the film. Even marginally intelligent people accept what they're seeing knowing that it is a movie, flavored and painted by a bunch of people based on their views and opinions.  The “job” of the viewer is to be entertained, and in some cases, learn something.

I would guess that non-Christians will not be flocking to see the movie (although I admit that I might be wrong). I suspect that those who are doubtful of the truth in the story would have no interest in going.  Truthfully, I have a problem myself with many fundamental Christians and with certain church groups and teachings. But I am very anxious to see this movie because I have faith that it will be well-done and powerful and also that I can form my own opinions about the way the “facts” are presented.  Just like any other movie I would see.

I would be more interested in your thoughts had you said “I saw this movie and this is what I think about it.” than saying something that implies you are judging the movie prior to having seen it.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is just another excuse for modern jedi to impose overwhelmingly biased beliefs on the world.

In all seriousness, though... if you're religious in nature, look upon it as a historical document.  Otherwise, look at it as a work of fiction.  In any event, judge the piece on its artistic merit, not on whether or not you agree with the beliefs of the film's creators.  One of the all-time classic films, Birth of a Nation, was single-handedly responsible for the rebirth of the KKK in America.  But a hundred years later, we don't look on it for that ill side-effect, but instead we judge it as a classic work of cinema.  I personally found the film Malcolm X insulting in the way it portrayed white Americans, but I'm not going to denigrate it's artistic merit - regardless of whether or not I agree with the message, I still think it's a powerful piece of film.
