Hi all!
Whew! Let me 'fess up at this point and admit that in hindsight I probably made a dreadful mistake in staying in my condo which is just across 98 from the bay. As it happened, we were spared. Had Ivan not turned at the last possible moment I likely wouldn't have been here to be checking in.
Much much tree damage but no un-fixable structural damage. My four cats and three complex-kitties, along with my parakeets, rode it out in my upstairs unit...all the felines being maxed out on tranquilizers. Sophie and I were with my downstairs neighbor through the night, she (Sophie, not my neighbor) likewise zonked and me about to take one of their tranquilizers about one-ish. Note for the future: Pet Tranquilizers ROCK! (Disclaimer: not for human consumption. Speaking from experience during my earlier more experimental days.) They didn't even know a storm was out there, seriously.
My house in Loxley where my mom and stepdad reside had damage...I figure I probably have enough damage to meet but not exceed the $2000 hurricane deductible. Sigh. Can't complain though. At least everybody's okay.
Spent a lot of time over the last few days in ice/water lines, for which I must send extreme kudos to the organizers and volunteers...stellar work, all, as we didn't get our power back on until last night. Note: MRE's are cool little inventions. I don't know what chemicals they contain to make them heat up so quickly (and don't want to know, thank you) but quite tasty and enough for even the largest appetites like mine.
I wouldn't do it again. Of course that's what I say now, five days after the fact. Sometimes I'm told I have a short memory.
Glad to hear from you guys, and hope to hear from everyone else soon.
