I posted your question at another board I frequent because a guy there has been very helpful to me in attracting birds to my balcony. I too have no bluebirds but would like some more colorful additions to my rather dull group. This is what he had to say about bluebirds.
While this area is considered a part of the bluebird's range, you will find very few. Bluebirds must compete with starlings and sparrows for food and nesting sites, and they have faired poorly--almost to the point of extinction.
It's better if you try for cardinals and finches. Cardinals will visit most any seed feeder. For finches, I'd try a thistle sock-feeder. Goldfinches are particularly pretty in the springtime, when they get their new plumage.
Like people, individual birds have their own unique personality. In order to make the "dull" birds more interesting to you, start trying to recognize the differences in temperament from one bird to the next. Pretty soon, you'll be able to tell them apart, and then you'll start giving them names.
