Okay, y'all know how every single topic reminds me of a funny story.  I've actually got a bunch of tattoo tales, but this is probably my favorite.

I don't really hang out in bars much anymore but awhile back I agreed to meet a friend for a drink at a little hangout not far from where I live, a colorful little place frequented by a motley assortment of characters.  I was watching my friend shoot pool (I have no skills of my own so I enjoy pool only as a spectator sport) and seated next to me was a biker chick, real friendly sort, and we began talking.  I noticed an interesting tattoo on her wrist and commented on it.  She began telling me about it and after a few minutes said “I’ve got a tattoo that’s a work in progress…would you like to see it?”  I agreed I would and she suggested we go in the ladies room.

Once inside, she peels down her jeans to display the outline of what can only be described as a strange forest scene, beginning at her hip and wrapping around her leg all the way down to her ankle.  It had all kinds of crap mixed in the leaves and vines: gnomes and fairies, butterflies and snakes, even inexplicably the face of someone who resembled Jimmy Carter on drugs, but she told me it was her boyfriend.

Do you know how hard it is to come up with appropriate comments of appreciation when evaluating such a vision?  I’m like “Uhmmm…very nice.  Interesting.”  And it was, actually, although a bit overwhelming.  Evidently I was successful in expressing my praise because she then pulled her shirt off over her head and turned around to present me a freakishly-large tattoo of Mick Jagger’s lips and tongue emblazoned across one shoulder.  So once again I had to nod and smile and say how cool her body art was, even though for a tiny girl she had enough tattoos to cover up a big man. She also had some piercings which as I've mentioned kinda freak me out and I was praying she wasn’t going to rip off any more clothes and show me where-all those were located because I was slap out of flattery by then.

And that, of course, was when the proprietor walked in to use the bathroom and eyed us both with unveiled suspicion, even though I had all my clothes on and obviously wasn’t doing anything except looking.

Right before I left, the girl gave me the business card of her tattoo artist and highly recommended him so I’m pretty much set for any upcoming tattoo and piercing needs.

Once upon a time I laughed at my sister when she said just hearing the buzz of the needle made her itch for a new tattoo. That was until I got my first (and only) tattoo and went back to the shop a few months later for some new jewelry for a piercing. I heard the buzz and was really “jonesing“ for a new one. I didn't do it though... still haven't... :(

Some of you know that I want a tat but do not have one YET.  I plan on getting one in the small of my back.  That is really the only place that I want one.

I also want to get my belly button pierced and actually plan on that when I reach my goal weight of 150 lbs.  (15 more to go!)

You're not getting any younger, hon...go ahead and do it!

R got his first tattoo when he was fifty.  He made it through the Marines and Viet Nam without ever getting one and finally decided right after his 50th birthday that he would.  Said at his age, even if he regretted it, he couldn't regret it for long.

But he hasn't, and he loves it and it looks great.

Carpe diem and all that.
