OK, this thread is an attempt for me to compile a list of area resturants, say within a 3 hour drive of Gulf Shores, which would be good for, say, a romantic dinner.  Good resturants for dinner to take your girlfriend/fiance/wife for their birthday for instance.  I'm looking for restaurants with a fairly nice romantic atmosphere: candle lit, good food and wine, great wait staff, etc.  Most of the Italian resturants I have been to in the area fit into this category.  I'll be posting some I've been to in the area as well very soon.

The Pillars in Mobile.  Pricey but special, generally fairly quiet, lovely old-world ambience.  Excellent waitstaff and wine selection.

Gambinos has awesome food and reasonable prices but I wouldn't consider it if I was looking for “romantic”.  Too noisy and family-oriented.

I'm sure I can come up with more suggestions when I'm not so sleepy.

Another place that's really really great is Fairhope Inn on Church Street.  They have a lovely, quiet little restaurant with several small rooms and a beautiful glassed in room overlooking a quiet courtyard.  Delicious food and unusually good attention to detail.  I need to say though that it's probably been close to a year since I've been there and sometimes things do change...but I'd be very surprised if the Fairhope Inn is any less than it was. Then when you've finished dessert and after-dinner drinks y'all can drive down to Fairhope pier and take a moonlight stroll.

You might also consider the Grand Hotel for the same reason.  Think how lovely it would be to enjoy a good dinner in their older restaurant overlooking the oaks and the water and then take an evening walk around their grounds and lakes.
