I decided we needed to go ahead and start a discussion thread for our use in talking about anything and everything pertaining to the story thread entitled “The Long Ride”.

I too have a first chapter to submit.  Sudz, shall we use your beginning thread even though it's entitled “Chapter I”?  I assume we'll want one long thread for the entire story/film/TV show/book...whatever it's gonna be this time.  Sudz, why don't you tell everybody your suggestion about how the story might unfold as far as biking cross country, stopping along the way to get involved in different stuff as we go.

Though it's been said before, I hope that everyone who reads this will want to jump in and contribute to the story in their own way.  As Viper mentioned earlier, there are really no rules at all except that no one can change anything that's already been posted nor re-define or change the basic personalities of existing characters.  Is that about it?  Maybe Viper can write a short FAQ here or in another thread.

Sudz, I love your first chapter!  I knew I would.  I'm hoping we can get a number of distinct characters fleshed out before we actually take off...kinda get to know one another and how we might all fit together for the long haul.

And with that, I think I'll go next!

Thanks again, anomaly!

Thank you Sir Anomaly for giving us this new playground.  Thank you Frolix for being so darn pushy and thank you Viper for the great idea.

As discussed, anyone can join in.  The idea is to create a character that is you.  The characters may start off anywhere, doing anything, and will usually come together in the story.  Either they are already aquainted or related or they meet each other as the story progresses.

Viper's idea was that soon into the story all the characters get together and (each for his/her own reasons) decide to embark on a six month long cross country bike trip.  As we journey, new characters (members who wish to join in) join up with the gang or have some sort of interrelation with it.

Another purpose of this thread could be to describe your character.  Of course, your character should emerge in the story itself strong enough that readers get a good mental picture of you.  My character is Timothy (nickname Sudz) McGruder, an Irish born imigrant who moved to America at age 5 and grew up in Baldwin County Alabama.  His folks sent him away to study music (piano) at age 11 because he was a gifted pianist from age 3.  However his passion is the life of a biker and he left school at age 18 and traveled the country with a biker bunch.  He settled down in Stapleton when his father died and his mom was ailing, started a bike repair shop which later became a custom bike business.  By day, he is a biker/shop owner and at night he plays piano for an orchestra.  People in each of the social circles do not know of his other life.

Oops!  A name problem.  My fault.  I suggested two and we wrote at the same time, choosing two names.  Let's go with The Long Ride.  The Last Cross Country is too much like the old movie CC Rider.  The Long Ride it is.

Ok... I think I've come up with something for my character... she's a little of the old Luna from our other story, but with a lot of the real me and my life mixed in.

Luna Drew... 30 years old, 5'11", @ 180, blonde curly hair more than halfway down her back, hazel eyes and an affinity for body piercings and tattoos. Working as a documentary producer for a production company, she's long since left the Alabama coast for travels around the world with work.

Her father's unexpected and untimely death in September has brought Luna back to her roots, to fulfill her father's lifelong dream. Luna grew up knowing of her father's love for motorcycles, in fact shortly before his death, he purchased his first bike in nearly 30 years. He'd been planning a cross country trip, but never got to take it.

Now Luna, with her father's ashes and a lifetime of memories in tow, has returned to fulfill her dad's dream, even in death... and along the way, maybe learn a little bit about herself.
